Arrived ok in Peru.

Hi Jerry.

Glad you both arrived safely. Slighty envious. If you venture to Machu Pichu, don't tell cathy, as that was where we wanted to visit this year, but this trip went out of the window during last summer.

Keep safe and not too many tandems.

More from Lima

Tues a.m. 11/01711... a few more pics from Lima at the weekend ...

Ancient pre-Inca ruins built of adobe bricks

Ceramic masks (modern)

Skulls in Crypt of Monastery of  St Francis

For those potters out there - an example of the many ceramic works

A quipu - an Inca abacus for recording information
- each string is knotted, each knot records numbers

The golden ceremonial outfit of a Pre-Inca Chieftain
(the poor quality pic is because it was taken secretly with pocket camera)

typical local transport

Around Lima ...

                                                        chess players in the street

local church derelicted by 1940 earthquake - the roof is barely holding up
                - note the grey vultures perched on the tower tops waiting for anyone venturing in....
Great homely reception in Lima at El Patio hotel.

Sunday, 2 January 2011

If anyone wants to be able to comment on, or ask questions about anything in particular (even for a consultation? *:@ ) please let me  know (jerryhollands@hotmail.com), so I can change your 'permissions' for you to do so. Anyone, even all of you, can ask to be an 'author'.

But if you don't like those 'post a comment' boxes everywhere, that's OK too.

The Constellations

I wonder what it'll be like viewing the stars and constellations from so close to the equator? Firstly it'll be odd not being able to view Polaris, and secondly there'll be a host of unfamiliar constellations from the Southern Hemisphere. I thought it would be fun to make an astronomy 'cloud' to use as a visual guide that I can download onto my phone - in case we get lost!

click on a constellation name for a selection of Google pictures of that constellation or name
